5 Disciplining Tips For Kids

According to an early childhood education specialist, there is no such thing as a bad kid. Little children just need to be taught proper behavior. Here are the top 5 disciplining tips:

1. Be consistent. Everybody in your home should enforce the house rules. (this includes Yaya and extended family members). Constantly repeat the rules, as toddlers have short memories and attention spans.

2. Keep it simple. Use simple language on pre-verbal children. "Let's clean up" is better understood than a tirade on why it is wrong to scribble with crayons on the wall.

3. Redirect. Replace an object they shouldn't be playing with (such ad dad's cell phone), with safe toys that they like.

4. Be watchful. Supervision - lots of it - is the best parenting too for pre-verbal children, along with distraction and redirection.

5. Be realistic. Remember, they were infants not too long ago. Review your child's development milestones to understand general behavioral characteristics. Don't expect your child to sit still for one hour and exhibit perfect table manners - they're not little adults.
